Taking something apart from the end to see how it was set up or created at the beginning. Can you see the absolute necessity of being able to do this in your life to get the results you’re really after?
We all desire success. It’s different for each person of course and if you don’t know what success is for you, start there. Define it. Tweak it. Redefine it. Process it. Live it. Give your feedback on it. Then redefine if needed.
If you’re already living your success, then what’s next?
If you’re not living it…read on.
We’ve all succeeded at something. At a recent workshop I reminded the participants that if they’re potty trained, they’ve succeeded at something in their life. Taking a look at the steps it took you to succeed at an area of your life is the first step in engineering your success…from the end going forwards.
THOUGHTS + FEELINGS/WORDS + ACTIONS = RESULTS
Start at the end. What actions did you take to finish college? What words and/or feelings did you use? What thoughts gave you those words/feelings?
In our North American society, we’re very much taught that ACTIONS = GREAT RESULTS. If that were true, even people going through the motions having no idea what they’re doing would achieve GREAT RESULTS. We know this isn’t the way it works. Yet, we keep pushing. Doing. Doing more. Doing more again. Doing the same thing over and over. We’re always getting results. Not necessarily getting GREAT RESULTS.
So it’s not from our actions by themselves.
We also know it’s not from our words/feelings. The phrase ‘talk is cheap’ comes to mind. Easy to say certain things and sometimes we add words/feelings to actions and our results change sometimes to GREAT RESULTS and sometimes not. We seem to have no control over it though and we attempt to repeat the GREAT RESULTS and it doesn’t always happen again.
Continuing to reverse engineer our results gets us eventually to our thoughts. Could what goes on between our temples, conscious or unconscious, be the root of our GREAT RESULTS? I say yes!
Here’s why: when a person starting a new business, for instance, has the thought that they will make GREAT RESULTS by thinking any help they need will be readily available; opportunities come from all kinds of sources; taking care of myself makes my business even stronger etc., they produce words/feelings of empowerment, trust in the Universe and energy, the actions they take will be inspired, not to mention solutions-based.
However, if a new business owner thinks they have no support, I can’t possible do this, what have I gotten myself into, they produce words/feelings of defeat, doubt, and despair. The only kinds of actions that come from these thoughts/words/feelings are desperate, uninspired and unclear. Then, the results aren’t what they’re looking for so they believe they’re thoughts to be true.
When you’re not getting the results you desire in your life, do not take another uninspired action. Stop everything, sit down and check your honest to goodness thoughts. And when I say honest, I mean…be honest with yourself. No need to sugar-coat your own motives. It’s okay to say you don’t really desire to run a business and that you’d like to take a different direction.
So here’s your assignment:
Which area or result are you not happy with in your life right now?
Sit down with no technology, no noise, no distractions (could be difficult if you’re used to noisy distractions which is our sub-conscious protecting us from having to pay attention to this stuff)
Take a couple deep breaths (this not hokey or hippie; your breathe is the most basic force you use without even thinking about)
Ask yourself (or write in a journal if that’s more helpful): What’s really going on here? What’s stopping me from getting the results I desire?
Stay with this, however, coming back to it a couple times over the course of a week could give you the picture you really need as it gives us the processing time. Also gets us down a couple of layers past the obvious to the not-so-obvious issues.
Next step is to tweak any thoughts that you know are not going to lead you to your desired GREAT RESULTS. Might need a trusted friend or mentor to help you delve into creating some great new thoughts.
If you take this approach to the other areas in your life that need a good tweaking, you’ll soon start to see patterns of thinking. Sometimes, even just one thought that is so basic to you, it’s the one causing all the RESULTS that you’re wanting to remove from your life. These basic thoughts have turned into beliefs and unfortunately, have helped you make decisions in your life since their inception. Thoughts such as I don’t deserve to succeed; I’m not enough; I don’t belong anywhere; I’m not worthy and many, many others.
If the uncovering of one of these beliefs is causing you to feel worried, anxious or depressed, give me a call. We’ll acknowledge it, let it go, replace the thought and get you back onto some GREAT RESULTS!
Sometimes, taking something in reverse is just the best way to move forward!
